Why Stores Need to Respond to What People Are Buying Now, Not Just Forecasting

Published by riteshkapur on

The concept of stores responding to current trends and buying patterns is not new, and many successful companies have implemented it to drive sales and customer satisfaction.

One such company is Amazon, which constantly updates its product offerings based on what people are buying and searching for. Its recommendation system uses data analytics to suggest items that customers may be interested in based on their past purchases and browsing history.

Another example is ZARA SA, a fashion retailer known for its fast-fashion business model. Zara is able to produce and stock new items in stores within weeks, allowing it to quickly respond to changes in fashion trends. The company also uses customer feedback to inform its designs and product offerings.

Apple is another company that has successfully responded to what people are buying. The company has consistently released new and updated products, such as the iPhone and iPad, to meet customer demand. Apple also regularly updates its products with new features and designs, keeping them relevant and appealing to customers.

These companies have been able to stay ahead of the competition by responding to what people are buying now and not relying solely on forecasts. By keeping up with current trends and using data analytics and customer feedback, they have been able to drive sales and maintain customer satisfaction.

Have you ever walked into a store and found nothing you wanted to buy?
Or have you ever seen a product you loved, but when you went back to buy it, it was no longer available?

This is a problem that many stores face when they rely solely on forecasts instead of responding to what people are buying right now.

Here’s why it’s important for stores to keep up with current trends and buying patterns:

1️⃣ 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀: When stores stock products that people want to buy right now, they’re more likely to sell them. This means more sales for the store.

2️⃣ 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: When people find what they want to buy, they’re happy. Happy customers are more likely to return to the store in the future.

3️⃣ 𝗜𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲: If a store stocks products that people don’t want to buy, they’re more likely to go unsold. This leads to waste and lost profits.

For example, imagine a fashion store that only stocked baggy clothes while the trend is for form-fitting outfits. If the store doesn’t stock form-fitting clothes, it will miss out on sales.

Similarly, imagine a grocery store that stocks an abundance of seasonal fruits and vegetables when they are out of season. People are unlikely to buy produce that is not in season, and it may go to waste.

So, it’s important for stores to respond to what people are buying right now, not just relying on forecasts. Stores can do this by
• keeping up with current trends,
• asking customers for feedback, and
• using data analytics to see what’s popular.

Remember, being able to respond to what people are buying 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸 can mean the difference between a successful and unsuccessful business.

Don’t rely solely on forecasts – keep up with current trends and stay ahead of the competition.
