Limit the number of projects that you are working on at one time.

Compared to available capacity, too many projects are in execution. This causes execution priorities to become confusing.

For example, 
If several projects are in execution, different departments focus on their work differently. 

All projects can make some progress. 
But projects soon become stuck. 
This happens at places where work from different departments have to come together. 
Task priorities within departments could also differ. 
Then even the departmental work takes longer. 
Different priorities also create schedule conflicts. 
This causes the individual resources to multitask, which results in lower quality.

If fewer projects are in execution:
We will be able to align Task priorities within and across departments. 

If you want to align task priorities, reduce the work in process. 

The first rule for execution success is: 
Limit the number of projects running at a time. 

Stagger Projects. 
Any extra projects will only:
– spread resources and 
– destroy synchronization. 

Enforce this rule even if it means leaving some resources idle!
